TEHRAN - Iran’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) Secretary-General Bahram Afsharzadeh reserved tickets for the athletes competing in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“We reserved airline tickets and made hotel reservation for all Iranian participants in the London 2012 Olympic Games,” Afsharzadeh said.
“We don’t know exactly how many athletes will qualify for the games but we’ve reserved the maximum number of tickets,”
A total of 55 Iranian athletes took part in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
“We are going to participate in London Olympic Games with more athletes in comparison to the previous edition. Of course, it depends on the teams and athletes’ performance in the upcoming events. Iran will likely have representatives in some events such as shooting,” Afsharzadeh stated.
Iranian Olympic officials had threatened to boycott the 2012 London Olympics since the official logo for the games resembles the word ""Zion"" which is a biblical term for Jerusalem.
Afsharzadeh sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee president, Jacques Rogge in which he said the logo was ""racist"" and called on other Muslim countries to join in protest.
Afterward Rogge replied the logo of London means the London 2012 Olympics, nothing less and nothing more.
In March, British Prime Minister David Cameron said the Iranians would not be missed if they did not attend the event.
“British politicians mustn’t comment on the matter. We are going to take part gloriously in the 2012 Olympic Games,” Afsharzadeh replied
